It’s no longer a secret that you can bag some great deals online instead of trudging personally to the mall and battling with the crowds. Be it clothes, jewellery, cosmetics, electronics, books, so on and so forth, there is a plethora of online stores that cater to your shopping needs.
When it comes to shopping for clothes, many people still don’t realise that Singapore has its fair share of local talent, in the form of up-and-coming blogshops. These are mini shops that operate online, and they first sprang up on blog-hosting websites, hence the name. From the owners, to the models, and even the photographers, almost everyone involved in the venture are locals, and thus, they are able to deliver what Singaporeans want.
Singaporeans love shopping, and they want it fast and affordable. In recent years, global fashion brands such as Topshop, Forever 21, and H&M have set up shop on our sunny island. But most consumers who have shopped at these labels overseas, i.e. in the U.S., have noticed that the same item there is much more expensive here, even after the conversion of currency.
Some people then chose to shop the online store of such brands, and enjoy savings when compared to buying the items in Singapore stores. But not every brand provides shipping to Singapore, and the waiting times for delivery could stretch up to weeks.
Enter now, the Singapore blogshop. By keeping most of their operations virtual, blogshop owners save a tonne on rent that brick and mortar shops can’t. These savings translate to more affordable prices. Based in Singapore, blogshops usually send you your items by local mail, or even arrange mass meet-ups for you to get your goods in time for a special occasion. You no longer have to wait for weeks, nor pay exorbitant shipping fees for your items.
There are new collections launched almost weekly, and some even manufacture exclusive designs. Not only is the quality comparable to boutique buys; you’ll also have a lower chance of showing up in the same dress as someone else at the next party.
In addition, consumers appreciate having a local girl model the clothes as they can better relate to her than a Caucasian model. The fact that one probably has a friend who knows someone who is a blogshop model or photographer makes it a more appealing place to shop at than at a mass street fashion label. It’s almost as if you’ve had a hand in their success.
Blogshops also rely heavily on word-of-mouth marketing and leverage on social media to increase their online presence. They may even conduct giveaways and promotions to reward their loyal customers with gift vouchers, hampers, and coveted party invites. These perks sure beat shopping at the usual high street fashion stores.
So the next time the shopping bug bites, give yourself the chance to be pleasantly surprised at what our local online shopping community has to offer, and click away!
